The Four E’s Of Excellence

Engagement

An engaged leader, with an engaged team, holds the first key to excellence.

Engaging the team and engaging patients are vital components of excellent orthodontic practice. The more engaged we are, the more we buy into the goals, and the difference we aim to make. As leaders of our practices, we must continuously focus on our teams’ growth and strengthen their skills. Excellent orthodontic practices are lead by doctors who engage their employees to create great teams.

We must also evaluate how we engage patients to choose to take their orthodontic journey with our practices. In today’s competitive landscape, engaged patients accept treatment in greater numbers. Engaged patients refer their friends and family. Engaged patients have fewer compliance issues during treatment.

Empathy

An empathetic doctor holds the second key to excellence.

Empathetic communication begins with listening to our team and our patients to understand their concerns fully. Empathy is important because it helps us build stronger relationships. It helps us understand individual concerns, treat people the way they want to be treated, and build trust. Empathy helps people feel seen, heard, and valued. After all, we are in the people business. It is a critical leadership skill that relies on excellent listening skills. Empathy also helps us in offering the best patient experience.

Efficacy

Effective teams hold the third key to excellence.

Achieving effective results is a vital part of orthodontic treatment. When we provide efficacious care, we can achieve outcomes that help us provide excellent orthodontic treatment. Consistent, remarkable results help our practices develop a reputation that helps us grow. We are in a business dependent on referrals, whether they come from our professional partners or our patients referring their friends. An essential part of an orthodontic practice is working towards continual improvement. Part of this improvement is a commitment to improving the effectiveness of our treatment. In today’s age of developing technology, it is critical to developing skills and techniques for our treatment.

Enrollment

Excellence also comes from influence and enrollment.

Enrollment into the journey and the process is critical for orthodontic offices to gain case acceptance and follow through on treatment. Issues of compliance and case acceptance often are rooted in the lack of enrollment skills. Enrollment skills are leveraging influence. Influential teams and influential leaders are far greater at enrollment skills, before, during, and after treatment.
