During office closures, limited appointments, or patients that are seen by doctors remotely, it is sometimes necessary to order additional aligners without being able to bring a patient in for an office visit. In these cases, when aligners are tracking well, an additional order of aligners can be performed without a scan by using photos captured using the virtual application.
If the appointment is a synchronous virtual appointment, capture photos from the patient during the process. Then, screenshot the desired images. If you are using an asynchronous virtual care application, use the photos that the patient has captured for you.
In the Invisalign doctor site, start a prescription for Additional Aligners (AA). Here are the steps to do it:
- Complete the prescription requesting to continue from the best fitting aligner, final aligner, or both for the patient.
- Avoid any choices that would prompt an in-office visit. For example, removing old attachments, IPR, and adding new attachments.
- Submit the photos acquired via the virtual application.
- The next series of aligners will begin where the last series left off in the prescription.
After completing the prescription, develop a new ClinCheck treatment plan to address the concerns remaining. In essence, these are over-treatment aligners. Mail out or deliver these aligners to a patient in a remote location or from the office with limited, in-office appointments.
