Four Skills for Remarkable Leadership

Ask the right questions to empower

Don’t be the problem solver, be the guiding leader. By asking the right questions, we will motivate and empower our team to find solutions. As orthodontists, we are trained to solve problems: correct malocclusions, treat patients, be the solution in all clinical areas. The challenge comes from the fact we need to change into a leadership mindset. Where the change comes from delegating and empowering. This skill comes at a collision course with the way we tend to do things. And yet leading with questions helps us to grow an empowered team.

Focus on what you can control

By focusing internally on the things we control, we can be more productive and drive positive change. Most of the external factors cause stress in our lives, and yet we can’t do anything about them. This can be maddening and causes unnecessary pain. When we focus on what we can control, we clear our mind of so much weight and move towards a better path of personal and organizational leadership.

Focus on the process, not the goals

Everyone wants to achieve goals, but excellence comes from execution, not goal-setting. By focusing on improving the way we work towards achieving our goals, we will ensure our goals are continually met and exceeded. It is about the habits we promote and instill each day. Most of us set goals, but those who achieve remarkable results focus on the process and focus on action.

Grow your team

By nurturing the growth of others around us, we can empower them to succeed. Their success helps us succeed as well. It is so compelling to experience personal growth when you take the initiative to grow others. Remarkable leadership is ultimately about paving the way for others to also lead and rise above your expectations.
